Drilling anchor holes: drill diameter and hole depth per anchor

5 min read

An anchor only holds what its ETA promises if the drill hole is right. Drill too wide, and the expansion does not grip. Drill too shallow, and the anchor does not reach its depth or sticks out too far. Below you find, for every anchor in our range, the drill diameter, the drill hole depth and the anchoring depth, taken directly from fischer's product pages.

How to read the tables

  • Drill Ø (d0): the nominal diameter of the drill bit. Never drill larger.
  • Min. drill hole depth (h1): the hole must be at least this deep.
  • Min. drill hole depth for push-through installation (h2): in push-through installation you drill through the fixture. fischer gives a separate minimum depth for it.
  • Anchoring depth (hef): the depth at which the anchor reaches the values in its ETA.
  • Fixture thickness (tfix): the thickest part you can fix with this anchor.

For the FAZ II Plus, the first number in the size is the thread and the second is the maximum fixture thickness at standard anchoring depth. The FAZ II Plus 10/30 therefore has an M10 thread.

FAZ II Plus: key data per thread size

These values apply to every length of one thread size, in zinc-plated, stainless (R) and highly corrosion-resistant steel (HCR). They come from table B2.1 of the ETA.

Hole in the fixture: do not drill the hole in the base plate or bracket larger than the value in the third column. The ETA does not allow a larger hole.

FAZ II Plus bolt anchor

The GS and HBS versions with large washer have the same drilling data as the standard version of the same size. Where two values are given, the first applies at standard and the second at reduced anchoring depth. A dash means that fischer gives no reduced anchoring depth for that size. You find every size under bolt anchor FAZ II Plus, FAZ II Plus GS and FAZ II Plus HBS.

FAZ II Plus with cap nut

The FAZ II Plus with cap nut needs a slightly different drill hole than the standard version.

SizeDrill Ø (mm)Drill hole depth h2 (mm)Anchoring depth (mm)

10/20 H109760 / 40

The torque is in the key data table above. Tighten the nut with a torque wrench: only at that torque is the FAZ II Plus set as the ETA requires.

EA II hammerset anchor

The EA II is a hammerset anchor with internal thread. You drive it in with a hammer until it is flush with the concrete surface. Keep to the minimum drill hole depth in the table for that. The stainless version (R) has the same drilling data as the zinc-plated one. Note: the EA II-D needs a different drill than the EA II of the same size.

The screw-in depth is how far the bolt or threaded rod must go into the anchor: at least the first value, at most the second.

FZEA II ZYKON hammerset anchor

The FZEA II sits in an undercut drill hole. You make that hole in one go with the special drill that fischer specifies per size. fischer's product page for each size names the drill and the setting tool that go with it.

Never use a table value for an anchor of another brand or another series. Every ETA has its own drilling data, even for the same thread size.

Where do these numbers come from?

All values per size are on fischer's product page for that article. The key data of the FAZ II Plus come from the ETA. Where two fischer pages of the same size disagree, we took the value most pages agree on. For the torque we always follow the ETA. For a calculation and for the installation, the ETA and fischer's installation instructions apply.
